We live in a time where unexpected events can easily disrupt the monotony of everyday life. While most of us have the foresight to be prepared for an emergency evacuation or situation like a house fire or flood, your pets can only rely on the fact that you exist to protect them.

During an emergency situation, life is literally shaken up, and your pets will definitely be on edge and looking to you for security. At ZYMOX we put our furry families first, and know you do too! Here are some easy ways your family can always be prepared and keep your pets safe in a time of emergency.

Have a Plan!

In the case of a major emergency like a fire or gas leak where you and your family will have to leave immediately, always have an escape route. Hold family meetings and let your house members know:

  • The different routes from different bedrooms
  • Individual responsibilities
  • Who is responsible for grabbing which pet

The last one is especially important because in an emergency, your pets will be confused and panicked. Having their needs kept in mind will help ensure they escape with you as safe as possible.

Pre-Pack an Emergency Pet Kit

Emergency pet kits are great for every member of the family, and your pet is no different. Having a small bag with some of the essentials on-hand is always an easy way to stay prepared in an emergency.

Medications

Some animals require medications or ear and oral cleansers to maintain their quality of life. As far as prescribed medications go, pack a few day’s supply away. At least enough to hold you over until a quick vet visit.

Fortunately, for fur-babies who suffer from dirty ears, bad breath, or dry skin, ZYMOX and Oratene products come in easy to travel containers that can quickly be stored in your preparedness kit.

First-Aid Supplies

While we like to remain positive, we must remember that not every pet makes it out of an emergency unscathed. In the situation that your pet needs impromptu medical attention, have first-aid supplies on hand like:

  • Rubber gloves
  • Scissors
  • ZYMOX Topical Cream and Spray (Manages wounds, cuts, skin infections, and hot spots)
  • Gauze
  • Adhesive tape
  • 3% hydrogen peroxide
  • Ice packs

Fresh Food and Water

During an emergency, if you don’t know where your next meal is coming from, your pets definitely don’t. Have some food and water in your kit that will help them keep their energy up while you and your family are on the move.

Pet Tags and Microchip

Make sure your pets are microchipped and have tags with emergency contact information on them. In case you and your pals get separated, a good samaritan will be able to quickly track you down either by the tag or through a visit to a veterinarian that can read the chip.

Keep Up With Immunizations

There are lots of unexpected diseases out there that could have a negative impact on your pets. Always keep their health prepared by ensuring they are recent with their annual immunizations.
