The Advanced Technology of the LP3 Enzyme System

At the center of all ZYMOX® and Oratene® products is the advanced technology of the patented LP3 Enzyme System. This enzyme system is based on over 40 years of advanced technology and consists of three enzymes each with its own unique properties that are naturally derived. When combined they work synergistically to form a powerful antimicrobial system.

The LP3 Enzyme System

First, Do No Harm – Effectiveness Without Adverse Side Effects

Enzymes are naturally occurring proteins that increase the rate of chemical reactions. Antimicrobial enzymes possess many advantages over antibiotics. Unlike antibiotics, they are selective and only target single-celled organisms and do not disturb the normal flora. Bacterial resistance to an antimicrobial enzyme is very rare. In addition, enzymes are natural, non-reactive, and non-toxic without causing adverse health effects. The patented LP3 Enzyme System is effective yet gentle with no side effects and will not cause harm or irritation to healthy tissue; making this formulation ideal for animals with recurring conditions such as those affected by allergies.

Reduce Stress to the Animal

The LP3 Enzyme System interacts with the organic matter (pus, exudate, wax) to serve as a catalyst in the antimicrobial activity. Because of the valuable role of organic matter, the LP3 Enzyme System works best in an unclean environment. Not having to pre-clean an ear or skin site prior to the topical application means less stress to the animal with less touching of painful ears, for example. The LP3 Enzyme System is so effective it only needs to be applied once daily, which also reduces stress to the animal and helps to create an experience with less fear for the pet. As a bonus, this easy-to-use formulation increases pet owner compliance when caring for problematic ears and skin.

Harnessing the Power of Enzymes

The LP3 Enzyme System is a proven antibiotic alternative and has been shown to be effective against bacteria and fungus. The three enzymes that comprise this patented technology are:

Lactoperoxidase: A known milk peroxidase which when combined with hydrogen peroxide, thiocyanate or iodide produces hypoiodite ions or hypothiocyanite ions. These ions inhibit microorganisms by oxidizing their metabolic pathways.

Lysozyme: This is an enzyme derived from egg whites and effectively kills bacteria by disrupting and splitting the formation of the microbe’s cell wall.

Lactoferrin: An iron-binding protein that inhibits growth and destroys microorganisms by depriving them of iron.
